Untouched Beauty: Voidokilia Beach
https://maps.app.goo.gl/ERQtJsFShub6osJo6 DAY TRIP
Voidokilia Beach in Messinia, Greece, is a hidden gem that offers a unique blend of natural beauty and historical significance. Known for its distinctive omega shape, the beach forms a perfect semicircle, fringed by fine golden sand and crystal-clear, turquoise waters, making it a paradise for swimmers and sunbathers.
Surrounded by lush hills and rugged landscapes, Voidokilia is not just a beach, but a natural haven. Its untouched and unspoiled environment is home to a variety of bird species, adding to its serene and tranquil atmosphere. The beach’s location in the Navarino Bay adds a layer of historical intrigue, as it’s close to the ancient site of Pylos and Nestor’s Cave, believed to be linked to Homeric legends.
Voidokilia is also a perfect spot for hiking enthusiasts. A short hike up to the castle of Paleokastro offers a panoramic view of the Ionian Sea, the Gialova Lagoon, and the beach itself, providing a breathtaking perspective of the area’s natural beauty.
Accessibility to Voidokilia Beach is relatively easy, yet it remains uncommercialized, retaining its natural charm. There are no sunbeds / umbrella facilities and beach bars, which adds to its appeal for those seeking a more authentic and peaceful beach experience.
This hidden corner of Greece is a must-visit for anyone looking to escape into a natural paradise, steeped in history and beauty. Whether you’re a history buff, nature lover, or just in need of a peaceful retreat, Voidokilia Beach promises an unforgettable experience.
Note:
As it is part of a natural reserve the beach has limited services i.e. chairs and umbrellas. But not to worry we can provide both cooler box and umbrella to take with you. So, stock up on some water and sandwiches before departure. (Ice can be bought usually at a convenience store or petrol station along the way – Messini is on your way with all that you may need). Coffee and drinks services are provided – a young man regularly patrols the beach to take an order.
In August this place can get a bit busy but don’t worry the beach is more than two klms long. The difficulty may be parking and the long walk on the beach to find a nice spot. Follow the map bellow which basically suggests that you continue with your car through the parking area to spots behind the beach. That way the walk will be less tiresome and the car will be relatively close at hand.
Explore the surrounding area and take a hike to the castle on the left hand side of the beach… Enjoy!
